South American Alpaca Deliciousness February 24, 2010

My friend Erin spent a year traveling around South America rubbing elbows with other travelers and getting aquainted with her family. Obviously I was incredibly jealous for a few reasons. First of all, traveling is awesome. Second, the greatest yarn to have ever been created, Malabrigo, is made in Uruguay. *drool*

Imagine how excited I was when she came back with a heeping skein of super soft burgundy alpaca yarn. It sat on my desk for a while because I wasn’t exactly sure what I wanted to do with it. My cat, Boots (rest in peace, friend) sat on the skein and tangled it all up into a mess. At least now I knew what I had to do with it: untangle it.

I’d love to say that it took me the entire month of February to untangle the mess, but it only took a few days and a few hours each sitting. In actuality, my whole month was spent moving and packing (along with generous time and heavy lifting contributions from my friends and loved ones). Untangling the mess was simply a way for me to forget that I had actual unpacking to do.

Now, upon moving I found even more yarn than I ever could have imagined. Cascade 220, Sugars and Cream, novelty yarns, bright yarns, soft yarns, ribbons yarns, and of course, my lovely Malabrigo. God, I love Malabrigo.

I’m still not sure what I want to make with it, but I am learning towards the My Kind of Town Cowl.

Any ideas? Pattern recommendations? Anything you’re dying to see me create? I’d love to do something special with this yarn because it is special to me.

(I promise a real post soon!)
