Other Dishcloths… October 5, 2010

I’m back from a three month crafting hiatus. I didn’t do anything particularly fun with my three months, but it was warm and I decided I wanted to be outside instead of knitting or painting inside. I am getting inspired again and I’m working on a few projects to spruce up the living room in my apartment. Obviously, I’ll keep you in the loop.

When I took on the 50 States Dishcloth Project I knew it was going to suck. It’s an awesome project, it’s just taking me much longer than I had anticipated and there are other things I want to make instead. I already posted CT, but here are the other states that I had completed and mailed off….

So for those keeping score at home, that’s 5/50 completed. Yikes.

The first 50 States Dish cloth has been received!!

I knew that the Connecticut dish cloth would end up being claimed by my friend Cassie. I don’t know anyone that has more CT pride than her. She’ll say otherwise, but the fact that she has lived in Bethel, New London, and Gale’s Ferry over her life proves me right.

Cassie requested green and I’m glad I was able to accomodate. I’m sure that this cloth is going to end up in her adorable 18 month old sons mouth more often than the kitchen counter.

50 States Update! June 16, 2010

Thanks to the lovely Jill Bernard I have 31 states covered! Holy awesome! The list of states is below. I apologize if I haven’t had a chance to email you back yet to say that you’ll be the one representing your state. I am pretty much emailing people as I am completing the dish cloths. So far I have completed Texas, Maine, and Minnesota. I’ll be posting pics of those as well as some other awesome things I have made within the next few days.

I’m not sure how long it is going to take me to complete this entire project. There are other things I am working on and want to do. I didn’t realize how quick and easy these dishcloths are to make though. Answer: Super quick!

If you can help with a state in the project, follow the directions below. I know it’s a little hard to find the email address because I wrote it out to avoid getting spam from spam bots, but here it is again:

Please and thank you 🙂

Knitting dishcloths are my thing right now. They’re easy to make, the yarn is cheap, and I like the way that they look. It is a very easy knit and watch tv project. For my most recent craft swap I am knitting a few for my partner. Since she is a Texas girl at heart stuck in New Mexico, I thought it might be cool to knit her a Texas dish cloth.

After doing some pattern research on ravelry, I found out that, thanks to creator Rhonda White, there is a dish cloth pattern for each of the fifty states. Therefore, I am embarking on something purely ambitious: A 50 States Dish Cloth Project. Let’s see if I can blow Sufjan Steven’s 50 States Album Project right out of this great country of ours.

All the patterns are located on Rhonda’s Website for free.

Texas is already taken (which is a shame because its the only state where I actually know a few people), but all other states, including Massachusetts, are available. If you’re interested in joining , the steps and rules are below:

1. You must live in the state requested.

2. No duplicates.

3. You can request a color, but it may not get filled.

4. Optional: It would be awesome if you mailed me something “local” in return. If you want to craft something yourself, thats awesome. There is no need to reciprocate, but it’d be cool!

5. I am going to follow the patterns as they are so please don’t request changes to it.

Steps to Sign Up:

1. Email 50statesknit at gmail dot com with the state as the subject.

2. In the email please include your address. This will cut down on my inbox and make it more manageable.

I will email you back if you are the chosen one.

I really want to make this project a reality. It would be awesome if after you receive your dishcloth you pose for a pic with it and email it to me for this blog. That would make my happy.

I will be crossing the states off of this list as they are claimed.

Ready? GO!

New Hampshire
New Jersey

New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota

Rhode Island
South Carolina
South Dakota
West Virginia

(Note: I do have quite a few new projects to post, but I can’t find my camera adaptor)
